Inspiration

Hockney painted gardens like they were extensions of his pools - all controlled nature and deliberate beauty. But while his gardens bloomed with California optimism, mine wilt under grey London skies, even when dressed in his pastels.

Meaning

This park is a prison of politeness. The paths curve but lead nowhere. The pond reflects nothing but its own engineered perfection. Every flower bed follows a grid, every bench faces the wrong direction. It’s nature as Hockney might paint it, but filtered through my fundamental inability to find joy in green spaces.
