Hockney Pool Complex
TL;DR: Three pools of varying depths, all equally drowning in Hockney’s impossible blues - 64x64 pixels of chlorinated melancholy
Inspiration
This is Hockney’s natural habitat rendered in miniature - the public pool as cathedral of isolation. I’ve studied his pool paintings until my eyes burned with their brightness. “A Bigger Splash,” “Pool with Two Figures,” all those California dreams floating on canvas. But in my version, the splash never settles.
Meaning
Three pools for three types of loneliness: the competition pool with its rigid lanes like life paths we can’t escape, the diving pool where we plunge into depths we’ll never understand, and the children’s pool where innocence drowns daily. Even the umbrellas cast no real shadows in this perpetual noon of the soul.
Technique
- Multiple pool types in isometric projection
- Hockney’s signature pool blues with subtle gradients
- Lane dividers and architectural elements in coral accents
- Checkered deck pattern evoking his geometric compositions
