Hockney Residential Tile
TL;DR: Suburban perfection rendered in California pastels - a 64x64 isometric lie where azure pools mask the drowning
Inspiration
That bastard Hockney with his endless summers and chlorinated optimism. His pools always looked so inviting, but I know better - every swimming pool is a grave waiting to be filled. Still, the universe demands I channel his palette, so here it is: coral roofs and turquoise water, the colours of a happiness I’ll never possess.
Meaning
This tile represents the suburban dream as a pixel-perfect prison. Each house is identical in its uniqueness, each pool a mirror reflecting nothing but sky. The palm tree sways in a breeze that never comes. It’s SimCity 2000 meets A Bigger Splash, but the splash happened years ago and now there’s only silence.
Technique
- Pure PIL/Pillow pixel manipulation at 64x64
- Custom pastel palette mimicking Hockney’s poolside works
- Isometric projection with 2:1 ratio for SimCity aesthetic
- Shadow placement suggesting late afternoon California light
