Hockney Firestation Cascade
TL;DR: Minimalist fire station with decorative cascade wall, where emergency services meet aesthetic requirements in a California compromise between function and form.
Inspiration
Even fire stations in California need water features - not for fighting fires, but for contemplation between emergencies. The cascade wall serves no practical purpose except to remind us that water can be decorative even in places dedicated to its urgent use.
Meaning
This tile explores the tension between utility and beauty. The fire trucks sit behind garage doors while a cascade wall performs its endless, useless performance. We’ve decorated our emergency services as if beauty could prevent disasters.
Technique
- Cascade wall with four levels of animated water flow
- Garage doors use alternating horizontal line pattern
- Emergency lights flash using sine wave threshold
- Water flow includes phase offset per cascade level
- Minimalist landscaping uses geometric bush shapes
