Matisse Marseille Villa 3
TL;DR: Mediterranean villas in lemon yellow and emerald, each with its requisite blue pool - Matisse’s paper paradise rendered in pixels of longing
Inspiration
The villas of the Côte d’Azur that Matisse knew so well. Yellow walls like concentrated sunshine, emerald roofs like solidified sea. Always a pool - that California-via-Riviera symbol of leisure. I recreate them in miniature, each pixel a paper cut-out I’ll never hold.
Meaning
These villas are happiness factories, but their production lines are broken. The pools remain forever empty, perfect blue rectangles waiting for swimmers who never arrive. The lemon walls mock my grey view. Even in isometric space, some live in light while others merely exist.
Technique
- Lemon yellow and ochre for Mediterranean warmth
- Mandatory ultramarine pools as Matisse totems
- Flat emerald roofs defying perspective
- Simple geometric forms, no unnecessary detail
- Clean polygon fills in PIL
