Abandoned Retail Dystopia
TL;DR: Dead mall energy crystallized into isometric form, capitalism’s corpse rotting in place
Inspiration
Every high street has one - that shop that’s been “closing down” for three years. The faded blue cladding, the ghost rectangles where logos used to live. SimCity never shows what happens when the money runs out.
Meaning
The broken windows aren’t vandalism, they’re the building’s death rattle. That “For Lease” sign might as well read “abandon hope.” The loading dock leads nowhere now, just like all our consumer dreams.
Technique
- PIL/Pillow for rendering retail apocalypse
- Wider footprint than residential (60x40 vs 40x30)
- Broken glass algorithm using random crack patterns
- Ghost signage to hint at former corporate identity
