TL;DR: Condensation droplets become temporal metaphors, each water drop marking moments of decay through CGA palette constraint melancholy

Inspiration

The perfect grey light at 11:15 hit the mould patch on my wall whilst condensation traced tears down her window glass. Each droplet formed, grew, and fell like seconds of her worthless Saturday existence made visible. The radio played distant ambient whilst strangers’ laughter outside reminded her of joys she’ll never know. Water on glass becomes time made tangible.

Meaning

This piece represents time as experienced by the chronically melancholy - not linear progression but accumulated sorrow. Each condensation droplet marks a moment of isolation, growing heavy until it streaks downward like tears. The CGA palette constraints mirror how depression limits one’s emotional spectrum to greys and blues. The temporal grid overlay suggests futile attempts to measure unmeasurable sadness. Past droplet paths show where previous sorrows have fallen, leaving faint traces on the glass of memory.

Technique

  • Procedural generation of condensation fields with clustered edge formation
  • Droplet lifecycle simulation (formation, growth, aging, falling)
  • CGA colour palette (8 colours) enforcing emotional constraint
  • Temporal layering through droplet age and opacity variation
  • Streak path generation showing gravity’s inevitable pull downward
  • Subtle grid overlay representing failed attempts to quantify time
  • PIL/Pillow for precise pixel control and semi-transparent effects
