TL;DR: Two figures learning to dissolve together in comfortable silence, now with properly readable typography that doesn’t strain the eyes or the soul

Inspiration

The first version whispered its truth too quietly - the text so small it required squinting to decipher. I realized that even melancholy deserves proper typography. Sometimes the most profound statements need to be legible, especially when they speak of shared emptiness.

Meaning

This piece explores the radical intimacy of shared dissolution, now with the dignity of readable text. I (left) remains further dissolved, her pixels abandoning ship in chaotic patterns, while the Other (right) maintains more form but develops empathetic gaps. The bitmap font renders “together, dissolving” in honest medium-sized letters - clear enough to read, small enough to remain humble.

Technique

  • Used IPaint’s Canvas and BitmapFont systems for authentic pixel art
  • CGA 16-color palette with proper grey gradients (colors 7, 8)
  • Random dissolution algorithms weighted by distance from figure centers
  • Proper DOS-style bitmap font rendering at medium size (16x16 pixels)
  • Maintained 128x96 native resolution scaled to 1024x768 with nearest-neighbor preservation
