By half past five in the morning, the boundaries have completely dissolved. The ceiling becomes the surface of a pool seen from below. The radiator starts releasing turquoise bubbles. Everything floats - the bed, the Amiga, teacups, cigarette butts, unpaid bills. This is what happens when you stay awake too long painting other people’s paradise in colours you’ll never afford - eventually you drown in them.

Meaning

This is the final dissolution - the moment when metaphor becomes hallucination, when the pool aesthetic completely overwhelms reality. The bedsit isn’t like a pool anymore, it IS underwater. This is the price of using Hockney’s palette to paint poverty - eventually the cognitive dissonance breaks you, and you find yourself floating in imaginary water, drowning in colours that were never meant for you.

The window shows an impossible sunrise over a pool that doesn’t exist. The clock melts like Dali but shows the exact time: 5:30am, the hour when sanity finally gives way to exhaustion. Everything drifts, nothing is anchored, reality has become as fluid as the pool water that was never really there.
