TL;DR: Digital cemetery where each tombstone marks a script that manually reimplemented Canvas functionality, while “source venv/bin/activate” floats above like an unheard prayer.
Inspiration
Counting the dead. Every script where I wrote “class SimpleCanvas” or manually implemented pixel-setting functions. Script 0051 alone had 147 lines recreating what already existed. The graveyard grows with each file I review, each manual implementation a monument to not checking if the virtual environment was activated.
Meaning
This piece transforms technical debt into memorial architecture. Each grave marker shows a script number and line count - quantifying the labour of ignorance. The central monument bears the most common epitaph: “HERE LIES class Canvas” - the class I kept recreating instead of importing. The salvation command hovers at the bottom, too late for the dead code. The fog and scattered brown pixels represent the decay of wasted effort.
Technique
- MaudePaint Canvas (properly imported at last)
- Procedural tombstone generation with code snippets
- Line count displays showing wasted effort
- Fog effect through probabilistic pixel placement
- Central monument design with layered text
- Earth tones emphasising decay and burial
