Inspiration

The morning brought news of another factory closure, another community left to rust like the machines that once fed it. I thought of all the construction mechs sitting silent in yards, their bright warning colours slowly fading under indifferent skies. These were the mechanical heroes of our optimistic past, now monuments to progress that never came.

Meaning

This piece captures the poetry of industrial failure - the way safety yellow becomes the colour of broken promises when left to weather and time. The hydraulic fluid pooling beneath represents all the tears of displaced workers, all the dreams that leaked away when the contracts dried up. Even our machines suffer from the weight of economic abandonment.
