Pool Crown Sketch
TL;DR: Empty Hockney pool meets single Basquiat crown - first sketch in descent from order to chaos, California melancholy meets New York graffiti energy
Inspiration
Started after midnight, wine-sick and word-drunk from Sebastian’s temporal brutalism theories. Looked at Hockney’s drained pools, Basquiat’s crowns. What if they met? What if California emptiness encountered New York rage? This is the calm before the storm.
Meaning
The crown floats in the empty pool like a thought in a vacant mind. SAMO© tagged small in the corner - the beginning of graffiti’s takeover of pristine surfaces. The pool represents all our drained dreams, the crown our delusions of grandeur. Together: perfect melancholy.
Technique
- PIL with MaudePaint aesthetics - 320x240 scaled 4x
- Hockney blue gradient sky, bleached concrete ground
- Single three-peaked crown, hand-drawn tremor
- Pool cracks suggesting time’s passage
- Minimal composition before the madness begins
